Vehicle Recalls in Canada: How to Check and What to Do

Canadian automotive resource hub

A recall is a formal safety action, not a general reliability score. Canadian owners should verify their exact vehicle through Transport Canada and the manufacturer because model year, build date and VIN can determine whether a remedy applies. Motorz.ca summarizes selected recall developments but does not maintain an exhaustive recall database.

How to use this page: Choose the decision you are making, open the detailed guide, and verify time-sensitive rules or programs with the linked primary source.

Check the official record

Search Transport Canada’s recall database and the manufacturer’s VIN tool. A model-level news story cannot confirm that an individual vehicle is affected.

Understand the notice and remedy

Read the risk, affected population and remedy. Contact an authorized dealer and keep records of communications and completed work.

Separate recalls from other information

A service campaign or technical service bulletin is not automatically a safety recall. A vehicle-history report may contain useful records but should not replace official recall checks.
