Canadian vehicle recall watch: four safety notices to check in September 2026

Transport Canada’s September recall records include potentially serious engine-power, seat-belt and rearview-camera defects. The four notices below are a selective watch list, not a complete recall database. A model and year match is not enough: owners should check their vehicle identification number with the manufacturer or dealer.

Act first on instructions that restrict use. Hyundai advises owners covered by recall 2026-337 not to carry a passenger in the rear-centre seat until the buckle is replaced. Ford recall 2026-411 concerns possible sudden engine-power loss.

Canadian recalls to check in September 2026

Ford 2026-411: engine piston failure and possible power loss

Certain 2026 Ford Bronco Sport, Mustang, Bronco, Ranger and Explorer vehicles with 1.5-litre or 2.3-litre engines may have improperly manufactured pistons. A piston could crack, the engine could fail and power to the wheels could be lost suddenly. Ford says it will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the engine where necessary.

Mitsubishi 2026-407: rearview-camera image may freeze

Certain 2025–2026 Outlander and 2026 Outlander PHEV vehicles may have infotainment software that causes the rearview image to freeze or fail to display in reverse. The planned correction is a dealership software update. Until repaired, drivers should use mirrors and direct observation rather than relying only on the screen.

Hyundai 2026-337: rear-centre seat-belt buckle

Certain 2024–2026 Kona and Kona EV vehicles, plus some replacement buckles, may have a bracket that was not manufactured correctly. Transport Canada says the buckle could detach in a crash. Hyundai advises leaving the rear-centre position unoccupied until the dealer replaces the buckle.

Ford 2026-409: F-150 high-mount brake lamp

On a small number of 2026 F-150 trucks, the centre high-mount brake lamp may not be properly attached and could separate. Ford’s remedy is an inspection and securing of the lamp as needed.

How to check whether your VIN is affected

• Locate the 17-character VIN on the dashboard, driver-door label, registration or insurance document.
• Use the Transport Canada recall portal and the manufacturer’s Canadian VIN lookup.
• Contact an authorized dealer if the VIN lookup is unclear or the vehicle changed owners.
• Follow any “do not drive,” “park outside,” seating or charging instruction immediately.
• Keep the repair invoice or dealer record even when recall work is performed at no charge.
